LATE MODEL ROOKIE ALLEN COLLECTS SECOND WIN

Source: LVMS

The NASCAR Weekly Racing Series was in full swing Saturday night at the Bullring at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

Rookie Jason Allen captured his second NASCAR Late Model win of the season. Race leader Chris Clyne drove hard to hold his lead over Allen. On the second caution restart, Allen took the lead over fellow rookie Clyne. Allen was able to maintain his lead to the checkered flag in the caution-filled 50-lap main event.

"In longer races we have always done good," Allen said. "Last night (Friday) we came out for two laps and broke a lower right front control arm. We came back; hard work pays off. That is one way to protect my points lead."

Ray Hooper Jr. won the NASCAR Late Model $100-to-win Racers Supply Fast Dash.

In Grand American Modified action, Fabian Bray collected his third victory of the season in the 25-lap main event. Bray passed race leader Charlie Wahl early in the race and held his position after a caution was thrown mid-race. Stoney Gray finished second followed by Doug Hamm, Jerry Walton and Charlie Wahl.

Glenn Burke held off Ken Kulikowski for the Outlaw Stock win and his eighth victory of the season. Pat Petrie Jr. was third followed by Mark Schriner and Richard Kerr.

Danny Medina of Colorado Springs, Colo. captured the win in the 30-lap Hitchin Post/Exiss Legends Cars main event. Andy Lewis of Corona, Calif. was second followed by local rookie Justin Johnson, Danny Williams and Rick Rogas.

Joey Mogar slightly increased his three-point Bandolero Cars lead over Alex Haase by taking the checkered flag. Haase, Kevin Terrell, Eric Chelberg and Patrick Clark followed Mogar.

Dee Dee Romeo was the national anthem singer and Aspen Bray served as Junior Race Fan.

Racing action continues Saturday, Sept. 1 at the Bullring with NASCAR Weekly Racing Series No. 14. The Series includes NASCAR Late Models, Grand American Modifieds, Chargers and Hitchin Post/Exiss Legends Cars. There will be a Thunder Roadster exhibition and Bug Bowl Car Football.

Stats of July 21

There were multiple serious accidents in the Late Models and Modifieds field. Dan Fitzgerald received burns to both hands following a bad accident that caused Dan to roll his Modified. Dan lost a motor and hit the wall coming out of turn 2 after slipping in his own oil. Many cars were involved in the incident including Sonny Wahl. Sonny Wahl slid through the same oil and hit the stopped Fitzgerald in the rear causing Fitzgerald to flip over. Sonny and Dan's Modifieds were too badly damaged to make the second feature race.

The Late Models had similar results as the Modifieds. Casey Kingsland, Driver of the #80 had hard contact with the wall and the #93 of Richard Bridges. Casey ended up sliding upside along the top of the interior barrier then on top of Richards's car. Casey's car came to rest on the entrance of turn one and burst into flames. It took the safety crew an extended amount of time to get to Casey due to where he was at and where they were parked. Casey freed himself from the car and collapsed just a short distance from the wreckage. Richard was slow to get out of his car as well but seemed to be all right. Richards's car had major damage to the roof and roll cage. Viewing the damage in the pits, it looked like Casey's car had actually entered the driver's area as it ripped through the roll

Stats of July 14

Kyle Busch was the third driver to make an attempt for the $5000.00 Hoosier challenge and the first to win it. Starting from the rear of the field, Busch had 50 laps to make it to the front and got it done. Nice job Kyle...

Kevin Terrell, driver of the #23 Bandolero, picked up his first Saturday night main event win by holding off #26 Bandolero of Joey Mogar.
Rick Lamb picked up his first main event win in the new charger stock that he acquired from Thane Alderman.

Pat Petrie Jr., driver of the #20 Outlaw Stock, put an end to #96w Glen Burke's winning streak.

Chris Clyne, driver of the #99 Late Model, was taken to the hospital with a broken wrist after the 50 lap main event. The injury was said to have been the outcome of the altercation on the cooldown lap with Dick Cobb. Cobb's car was subsequently destroyed from hard contact to the interior barrier.

Charlie Wahl showed up in a borrowed Legend this weekend. His primary car was pretty much destroyed last Tuesday in a head-on collision with the wall. Wahl was running well but had to leave the track due to the loss of his breaks. ALSO, Charlie has a new engine for his Modified and expects to make another attempt to debut his car this coming weekend.

The Legends finishing order is unofficial. LVMS is reporting that it is unofficial due to some confiscations of parts but was told that the reason was due to the race winner Kyle Busch having a protest pending against him for an absent hood.

Spencer Clark, driver of the #23 Legends car, finished in third place despite having a cast on his arm protecting broken bones in his wrist.

Late Models drivers and Tech inspectors got a break this weekend as far as tech inspections. After the Late Model race was over, the top five finishers were directed to the inspection area and were told that there would be no inspection UNLESS someone had a problem with someone else's car.

Due to the numerous request over the last few months for a classified section on the LV Local Racing Scene website we have decided to incorporate one. Details on the classifieds will be announced within the next couple of weeks. The classified section will be a lot of work to create and maintain so if you would like to help out by donations, kickbacks from the sell of items on the classifieds, or sponsorships for the section would be greatly appreciated.

Busch dominates Late Model division; Youmans and Danser take Charger wins

LAS VEGAS - Tom Youmans and Keith Danser captured wins in the Charger twin 25-lap main events, while rookie Kyle Busch dominated in the NASCAR Late Model division Saturday night at the Bullring at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.
Busch captured his fourth consecutive NASCAR Late Model win and his seventh victory of the 2001 season. Busch, who was fastest qualifier, started in the middle of the pack and quickly moved to the front. He was challenged by Ray Hooper Jr. and Steve Anderson on his drive to meet race leader Ken Holt. Busch passed Holt on lap 29 and took the checkered flag followed by Holt, Hooper Jr., Anderson and Jason Allen.
Busch also won the NASCAR Late Model $100-to-win Racer's Supply Fast Dash.
Youmans, third in the Charger division point standings, held off points leader Pat Petrie Sr. and Don Sargent to take the checkered flag in the first 25-lap main event for his fourth victory of the season.
Danser charged to victory in the second 25-lap Charger main event. He gained an early lead that narrowed as a result of a caution on lap 20. Rick Lamb quickly took over the lead on the restart lap. Lamb spun in turn four on lap 22, which allowed Danser to re-gain the lead and take the checkered flag. Danser was followed by Youmans, Don Darling, Sargent and Travis Swalwell.
"He (Lamb) went high and I went down underneath," Danser said.
Patrick Vogel gained an early lead in the Grand American Modified 30-lap main event and took the checkered flag. Fabian Bray, pilot of the No. 29, was awarded with the win after Vogel was disqualified in post-technical inspection. Stoney Gray was second followed by Doug Hamm, Larry Gerchman and Jerry Walton.
Ryan Foster of Anderson, Calif. took top honors in the Hitchin' Post/Exiss Legends Car 30-lap main event. Foster gained an early lead and held it to the checkered flag. Spencer Clark, Kyle Busch and TJ Clark battled hard for second position with door-to-door action. After a caution on lap 25, TJ was able to pass Busch to take third behind his son, Spencer. Rick Rogas followed Busch for the fifth spot.
"We are out here testing for the nationals," Foster said. "I'm surprised I did this good."
Katherine Spilsbury was the national anthem singer.

Jason Allen wins Bullring "July Blastoff" Late Model feature; Chuck Trickle narrowly misses $5,000 bonus

The Bullring's biggest crowd of the year braved unseasonably-hot weather and got what they paid to see: fireworks, both on and off the track.

Rookie sensation Jason Allen (photo) scored a thrilling victory in the 75-lap NASCAR Late Model feature at the Bullring at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. Allen beat Chuck Trickle to the finish line and denied the veteran a $5,000 bonus. Trickle was the fastest qualifier and opted to start at the rear to shoot for the $5,000 Hoosier Tire Challenge.

Allen took the lead on lap 30 when race leader Chris Clyne and second-place runner Steve Resznoweicky crashed on the back chute. Trickle cracked the top five on lap 33 and set off in pursuit of a rich payday. With just three laps remaining, Trickle took second place from rookie Kyle Busch and nearly caught Allen in Turn 4 with the checkered flag in sight. Allen took the win, while Trickle -- nearly sideways at the finish line -- was forced to settle for second place. Kyle Busch was third, followed by Ray Hooper Jr. and Ken Holt.

Trickle was asked why he gambled and decided to start at the rear of the 26-car field.

"I'm out of the points race, so we decided just to have fun and it seemed like the best way to do that would be to go for the bonus," Trickle said.

Allen drives the No. 71 Pontiac for former LPGA golfer Mary Wolfe, keeps his car in Trickle's shop and relies on the veteran for help setting up his race car, said he saw Trickle charging through the field. While he could have allowed his teammate to pass him and collect the $1,000 first-place money and the $5,000 Hoosier bonus, Allen -- second in points to 2000 Bullring champion Dick Cobb -- worked hard to protect his lead.

"I saw him get under Kyle (Busch) and I knew I had to protect the bottom (of the track)," Allen said.

Though denied a big payday, Trickle was the first to congratulate Allen in victory lane.

Seven of the 26 starters finished on the lead lap.

Allen also won the 10-lap, $100-to-win Racer's Supply Late Model Dash for Cash. The Late Model "B" Main was won by Hooper.

Doug Hamm won his first Grand American Modified feature of the 2001 season, finishing ahead of current points leader Dan Fitzgerald. Fitzgerald fought his way back to second place after being involved in an accident that cost him third place and sent him to the rear of the field.
